Write for us

Northern Civic Journal welcomes clear, original pitches about civic life in northern communities. Send proposals through the Contact page. We are interested in work that helps readers understand a shared question, process, place or record without telling them what to think.

What to pitch

Propose an evergreen explainer, comparison, account of a civic practice or close reading of a public document. Strong subjects have a clear reader question and a useful boundary: what the piece will explain, and what it will leave out. We welcome contributions that clarify civic language, participation, community decisions and the use of shared places.

What makes a good proposal

State the working title, the main point, the intended reader and why the subject is worth explaining. Include a brief outline and note the material you would use to check factual claims. Keep the pitch focused; a single, well-defined question is more useful than a broad survey. Do not include private or confidential information.

Sending and review

Use the Contact page and select the editorial question option to submit a proposal. A pitch is not a commission, and publication is not guaranteed. Please say if the proposal has been offered elsewhere or has a relevant commercial connection. Do not send a finished article unless it has been requested.
