Northern Civic Journal

Editorial policy

Northern Civic Journal aims to make civic subjects clear without making them seem simpler than they are. We check factual statements against suitable source material, show the difference between fact and interpretation, and correct errors openly.

Accuracy and context

Writers and editors check names of processes, document types and other factual details against reliable material available for the subject. We give enough context to prevent a useful detail from becoming a misleading generalisation. Explanations are not official guidance, and local procedures can differ; when a point depends on a specific jurisdiction or authority, we say so rather than imply one rule applies everywhere.

Independence

Editorial choices are made for their relevance to readers and the Journal's civic focus. A partnership does not buy editorial conclusions, favourable coverage or control over unrelated material. We distinguish explanation and analysis from opinion, and aim to describe disagreements fairly without presenting unsupported claims as established facts.

Corrections

If a reader spots a factual error or a passage that could mislead, please use the Contact page and identify the article and the point at issue. We review correction requests, amend substantiated errors and make the change clear where appropriate. A correction improves the record; it does not erase the reason an earlier version was inaccurate.

Partner material and illustrations

Paid, supplied or otherwise collaborative material is labelled so readers can distinguish it from independent editorial work. Labels appear with the relevant material, and partner links are identified where they appear. Some illustrations may be generated with AI; when an illustration is AI-generated, it is identified as such and is not presented as documentary evidence.
